Receiving orientation to a new organization or assignment, acquiring knowledge and learning new skills, and building workplace -connectedness- are all valuable benefits of a strong mentoring relationship. As many as 70% of employees credit one or more mentoring relationships as being instrumental in their career success and job satisfaction. The mentoring relationship can be formal or informal, short term, or can extend over the length of a career. In many cases, a mentor only learns of his or her valuable contribution as a career coach upon hearing retirement banquet tributes.

Benefits of a mentoring relationship for the organization, mentee and mentor include increased productivity, strengthened relationships, shared wisdom, knowledge and organizational history, and the personal satisfaction of perpetuating a legacy of service.

The best mentors have a record of success built on a foundation of academic preparation, practical experience and keen intuition. They are admired and well regarded within the organization for their accomplishments, integrity, positive attitude, qualifications, communication and interpersonal skills, patience and accessibility. Mentors are often natural coaches who enjoy sharing not only their knowledge, but the motives and analytical thought processes that drive many of their decisions and actions.

You may choose to approach a colleague or supervisor and discuss their willingness and availability to serve as a mentor. This overture may include sharing with them why you believe they could serve as an informative and inspirational model to you, and seeking a pledge of their time to work with you in certain ways or devote designated time for professional development counseling sessions. However, deriving the benefits of a mentoring relationship really requires little more than access to the right person, cultivation of a cordial working relationship, keen observation skills and a desire to learn.

There is no rule that limits you to a single mentor. Knowledge levels and subject matter expertise vary. Management, supervision and work styles may differ, as do personalities and perspectives, yet all may be effective in their own way, at certain times or under different circumstances. Broaden your exposure and become a well-rounded employee by developing mentoring relationships that are diverse.

Finally, regardless whether your mentorship is part of a formal program or informal arrangement, when appropriate ask questions to help clarify observations or information conveyed to you. Demonstrate enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, but avoid being overbearing or intrusive. Be generous in communicating your appreciation for the investment others are making in you and solicit periodic feedback on your development.

What is a strategy map? Is it just a nice presentation demonstrating company goals? Well, some top managers and business owners think so. In fact, this is not true as an effective strategy map shows both goals and ways to achieve these goals. Besides, some strategy maps are very difficult to understand since they contain complex terms and formulas from strategic management theory. An effective strategy map must be easy to understand even for a person without even elementary knowledge of strategic planning. Such a person should see goals and how these goals will be reached. It needs saying that Balanced Scorecard will perfectly work and the hotel will improve its performance only if improvements in the four categories are achieved. Of course I understand that the sentence “Regular photography business is dying” in this article title is too strong. The most talented photographers will be in business forever. I used it just to grab your attention to the problem that regular photography business got recently after starting a digital era.
Nowadays photo companies like Canon, Nikon and others are making simple to operate yet more and more advanced photo cameras and lenses, adding more new and useful features to the cameras, improving quality, sensitivity, noise reduction while at the same time cutting the price. Now everybody can buy a Digital SLR photo camera, read a photography book and take pretty good quality photos. Now we have more very affordable ink jet photo printers available in the market that can produce decent prints. There are many powerful photo editing programs for improving the images and making nice looking collages. The entire process of making nice pictures today is not difficult compared to the same process 10 years ago and much less expensive. That is good for the consumer but has put a great pressure on the professional photography business. Today anyone can buy computer, DSLR camera, ink jet photo printer and call themselves a professional photographer.
Today many people prefer to invite a friend to take their wedding photographs rather than use a professional wedding photographer. Those that do use a professional are expecting lower expenses as there are many standard photographers to choose from.Now many people prefer to make the photos by themselves without going to professional photographers and photo studios. That is why we can say that regular photography business is under huge pressure.

Ideas For Team Names

Your team will need to consider its function, and come up with a name that complements this. If its sports oriented, a strong even aggressive name could be appropriate like the Chargers or Raiders. On the other hand, a cultural group might prefer a gentler-sounding name, whilst a corporate team would do better to choose something to match their business aims and standards.

To get some ideas, your team members may like to look at names chosen by well-known teams in their field. Sometimes these are names of birds or animals, like Panthers and Sharks, and may be accompanied by a colour. Often the names are based around different types of groups. For example, Pirates, Indians and Angels.

Is your team purely local? Then why not make the town or city part of the team name, accompanied by an appropriate adjective, noun, or color. Or, if the team is part of a company, why not use the firms name in the same way? Make use of words such as “champions”, “heroes”, etc.

A team name needs to be as short and snappy as possible. Dont worry about it sounding slightly exaggerated rather that than having it too mild and anaemic. And, consider using rhyming and alliteration.

Yet another way of coming up with team building names is to take the initials of all its members, juggle them around, and make them into suitable words. This way, everyone has a share in the name.

Once youve decided on a name, youll then want to come up with a suitable slogan for the team. To do this, take each letter of the name, and think of an appropriate descriptive word which begins with that letter. To give a short, easy example, if your teams name were the “Reds”, youd make your slogan something along the following lines:

And, voil!… There you have your teams slogan or war cry, absolutely perfect for boosting morale, and making everyone feel part of a true team.
